Proposal for a Palm Tree

Dmitri Galitzine is making a palm tree. A simple solitary palm tree, bent at the perfect angle – you know, the one that says ‘paradise’. The one on the tiny sandy island. But his tree is built on a trolley to wheel around the Packington. And from time to time it stops. A spot of shade. A picnic. A space to tell stories about old trees or the new ones. A moment to help Dmitri make his tree bigger, add more leaves, make more shade. And to dream about palm trees and paradise, wherever that might be…

Dmitri will be out and about making his palm tree in the public spaces of the Packington 07-11 and 14-16 August. A Palm Tree Picnic will take place on Friday 17 August - further information will follow nearer the time once this event has been developed.....

Sound-opus

What does the Packington sound like? What does your fridge sound like? What do the fish in the canal sound like? Shepherd Manyika and young people from Packington are collecting sounds to create and then broadcast a soundscape of Packington voices and small noises.

The mobile sound studio will be collecting sound throughout the summer including on 27 July 3, 11, 18, 28 August. The Sound-opus Broadcast will take place on Friday 31 August - further information will follow nearer the time once this event has been developed.....

Wavelength

Join in a waving extravaganza in and around the Packington. Claudia Janke invites you to step through the curtain and greet your neighbours across streets, canals, parks and squares. Using a drone she is filming your ‘hello’ waves from balconies and doorsteps this summer and creating an outdoor video projection on 21 September.

Claudia has lived on the Packington for nineteen years and in 2014 made ‘Packing Up Packington’, an audio-visual installation in the old flats.

On Friday 21 September The Wavelength Projection will be a spectacle of waving - further information will follow nearer the time once this event has been developed.....
