How in the World do We Know?

Matt Lewis

Matt collaborated with users of the national deaf-blind charity Sense to explore sounds at the edge of and beyond human auditory perception. They were hosted by Park Theatre and met every week in the public bar. Their loud and vivid experiments with hand-held vibrating metronomes, drums, and local field recordings occupied the space, and the group developed a sound work that they performed in a series of public events. Their intense and moving final improvisations collaged the everyday soundscape of Finsbury Park with the internal sensory landscapes of the performers.

Matt was commissioned in 2013 for A Million Minutes in partnership with Islington Council and funding from Arts Council England. He was a Cocheme Fellow at Byam Shaw School of Art, Central Saint Martins in 20011/12.
