A Record of Wishful Thinking

Eleanor Meredith

Eleanor invited passers-by to write their wishful thoughts for Archway on one of the shop windows. Answers revealed a vivid and utopian public consciousness – for roads filled with cornflowers, no advertising on red buses, conversations with dead loved ones, superpowers, sunshine, requited love, the ability to fly, classes for everyone - alongside more immediate concerns such as the price of fish. Eleanor painted a compilation of these wishes onto the main window, photographing as she worked in order to make a stop-frame animation.

Eleanor was commissioned in 2013 for A Million Minutes in partnership with Islington Council and funding from Arts Council England.
