Performed Materials

Jane Cheadle

Jane mapped the rhythms of Junction Road with charcoal, paint, and water on the walls and floor of the disused shop, constructing a site-specific stop frame animation. Discovering the potential of the angled glass window to reflect the room back upon itself Jane worked at night, painting Archway back into the space. Illuminated by strong lights and dressed in a bright red boiler suit, she became an enigmatic and enticing spectacle. The animations that evolved out of the painted gestures were an unexpected translation of the place outside, and survive as a reminder of an ephemeral present.

Jane was commissioned in 2013 for A Million Minutes in partnership with Islington Council with funding from Arts Council England.
